Yonex Comfort Z3 Badminton shoe review

Introduction

The Yonex Comfort Z3 is not here to make you faster. It's here to make sure your joints don't file a formal complaint after a three-set match. Built with maximum shock absorption and support in mind, this is a shoe that takes comfort very seriously. Possibly more seriously than your coach takes your footwork.

But is it worth the price tag? I laced up, lunged, and limped (just once) to find out.

First Impressions & Design

Visually, the Comfort Z3 plays it safe. Clean, modern lines – but about as memorable as a Tuesday. The colours are polite, the materials solid, and the personality… pending. If you're hoping for "wow factor" on your feet, this one's more "hmm, okay."

Comfort & Fit

This is where the Comfort Z3 delivers the goods. Step into it, and your feet are immediately hugged by a soft, supportive cloud of cushioning. Ankles feel loved. Knees breathe a sigh of relief.

However, while the ride is smooth, the fit could be firmer. The shoe doesn't lock the foot in as tightly as one might hope. In fast changes of direction, it can feel like your feet are freelancing – which is charming in jazz, less so in badminton.

Weight & Movement

And here we arrive at the elephant in the gym bag: this shoe is heavy. Not "cement block" heavy – more like "I skipped leg day and now regret everything" heavy. It's not built for speed.

Quick movements, defensive lunges, and lightning-fast drives feel a little... delayed. If you're a front-court demon who thrives on agility, this is probably not your spirit animal. It's more tortoise than hare – albeit a very well-cushioned tortoise.

Shock Absortion & Cushioning

Now to the good stuff. The Comfort Z3 does what it says on the label. Shock absorption is fantastic – like having tiny trampolines under your feet. Every landing feels soft, every step feels secure.

The midfoot support could be better, sure. But unless you're actively trying to break your arches, you'll barely notice.

Conclusion: For those who want to win matches - and walk the next day

The Comfort Z3 is the shoe equivalent of a Sunday roast: warm, reliable, and a bit heavy on the sides. It's a fantastic choice for players who prioritise support and long-term foot happiness over raw explosiveness.

If you're more about staying injury-free than chasing net kills, this is your shoe. But if your game lives in your speed and your cuts are sharper than your string tension, you may want to look elsewhere.
