Review: Victor DriveX 12 Metallic

Built like a tank - but nimble enough to ruin someone's rally

The Victor DriveX 12 is the latest flagship in Victor's allround series, combining every bit of tech they've ever put a trademark on. Seriously, this thing reads like a user manual for a stealth bomber.

At first glance (and swing), it feels like a solid, heavy-hitting racket designed for control, pressure and deliberate shot-making. But after spending more time on court, something surprising happened: It got faster.

Or rather – I got used to it, and the racket revealed a much snappier side than expected. This is not just a tank in disguise – it might actually be a panther in a lab coat.

The Boring Facts

Flexibility: Stiff

Balance: Even Balance

Victor says this is bordering on headlight. But playing with it gives another impression. It isn't head heavy, just not as balanced as you would expect from a DriveX racket.

Weight: 4U

Grib Size: G5

Classic size, easy to adjust and adapt for better feel.

Shaft: Hard Cored Technology, WES 3.0, Free Core, Aerogel, Metallic Carbon Fiber etc.

Player profile: For tactical singles players and pressure-loving doubles generals who crave precision and punch. Now also for defensive specialists or reaction ninjas slicing through the air.

First impression & Design

Let's start with the looks. The pastel-orange matte finish is… unique. It's the kind of colour you'd expect to see in a high-end yoga studio or an expensive sports drink. Combined with black, blue and purple accents, it doesn't scream "winner" – but it definitely whispers "I cost more than your gym membership."
Build quality is top-notch. Everything feels premium, and you'll want to wipe it down after every point just to keep it looking fresh.

Control & Precision

Here's where the DriveX 12 shines like a freshly waxed floor. Net play is outstanding – especially cross-court drops, which feel illegal in how accurate they can be. Clears are precise and consistent, with a sense of "point-and-shoot" control that gives you tactical confidence.

This isn't just a control racket in name – it's a genuine conductor's baton, especially when you're the one dictating play.

Power & Smash

There's plenty of it – but you'll need to bring the timing.

The head isn't particularly heavy on paper, but the overall construction gives a surprising amount of punch. Both forehand and backhand clears fly with minimal effort, and smashes come in hard and steep – not bazooka-level brutal, but definitely enough to ruin someone's Tuesday.

Whether you prefer sharp stick smashes or full-on haymakers, the DriveX 12 has the backbone to back you up.

Maneuverability & Feel

And now, the revised verdict.

What once felt like a slightly stubborn Volvo in a tight corner now feels... surprisingly agile. Especially if you're well-positioned, the racket reacts quickly in defensive situations and flat drives. It doesn't slice through the air like a Fantomé, but it holds its own in both singles and doubles.

In fact, the DriveX 12 feels increasingly like a well-balanced allrounder – a racket that gives you confidence at the net, stability at the back and enough speed in transition to not feel like you're dragging a sofa behind you.

This is not a featherweight. But it's no longer a heavyweight, either. It's more of a calculated assassin in comfortable shoes.

Conclusion: Tactical, powerful and now surprisingly quick - what's the catch?

The Victor DriveX 12 Metallic has evolved from a control-heavy workhorse into a trusted allround weapon. With crisp shot precision, excellent power, and now a much-improved sense of manoeuvrability, it ticks nearly every box.

It may not be the prettiest racket on the wall, but it's one of the most complete. If you want to pressure your opponents from the back, dictate from the middle, and actually keep up in the fast stuff – this one deserves a serious look.
